Esports Showcase at the IBC2019 by EVS, ESL and Lagardère

EVS partners with ESL and Lagardère to bring essential new esports showcase to IBC2019

Liège, Belgium, August 7, 2019

IBC is introducing a timely event that taps into the considerable esports expertise of ESL, Lagardère and EVS, to provide a valuable insight into this rapidly growing genre for those involved in media and entertainment. The new IBC Esports Showcase will bring together the leading names in the industry to discuss the latest trends, showcase current developments and demonstrate esports live on stage. Free to all IBC2019 exhibition visitors, the event takes place from 9.30am to 5pm on Tuesday 17 September at RAI Amsterdam.

The beginning of the IBC Esports Showcase will feature a series of keynotes and panels in room E102, where experts from the likes of ESL, GINX esports TV and EVS will address the latest challenges and opportunities across what is already a thriving landscape. Jens Fischer, EVS’ esports specialist, will chair a session titled “Understanding esports production” which will feature speakers from Blizzard, EA, ESL and Twitch.

In the afternoon, there will be a live tournament in the Auditorium featuring two professional teams playing the popular game Counter-Strike that will give visitors a unique insight into the excitement that esports competition can create both live and on screen.

LSM remote control panel used for ESL esports live production
Production of this event will be organized by ESL, with the support of EVS and NEP The Netherlands. For the main production, which will be broadcast online and on IBC TV, NEP The Netherlands will have an OB van on site that will send camera feeds connected via IP to its new remote production center in Hilversum. From here they will create slow motion replays, clips and highlight packages using EVS’ latest XT-VIA live production servers and its LSM remote control panels. A second unit featuring EVS’ Dyvi switcher, XT-VIA, LSM, IPDirector and MultiReview live production tools will also be in place. As a result, visitors will be able to see up close how the ESL crew is able to control the big screens within the arena and quickly produce engaging packages to push out over social media using the EVS-powered workflow.

“The esports focused events and activities that we presented at last year’s show were incredibly popular, underlining the unprecedented opportunities that the esports market represents,” said Steve Connolly, Business Development Director, IBC. “This year we have created a dedicated showcase with leading industry experts who will examine the state of the industry, separate the hype from the real value, highlight the production challenges and much more. It will be an unmissable day for anyone with an interest in esports.”

“Esports continues to be a growing industry, and with tournaments and leagues becoming more popular across the globe, it’s important that media companies have a grasp on the challenges and opportunities of covering them,” said Nicolas Bourdon, SVP Marketing at EVS. “We’re excited to support and be a part of the first ever Esports Showcase at IBC and look forward to the panels and discussions that will take place.”
