John Watts is one of the most experienced multi-camera live sports directors of our time. He has directed the host broadcast coverage at the FIFA World Cup™, UEFA Champions League, Rugby World Cup, Olympics, and countless other sports events over the course of his career. His work has been recognized on several occasions with a BAFTA award and 10 nominations, plus four Royal Television Society awards and an RTS Fellowship.

Spreading the art of live storytelling

As one of the key instructors on HBS Broadcast Academy’s ‘Live Sports Direction’ course, John regularly shares his wealth of knowledge and experience with participants eager to learn the ins and outs of live storytelling. The course leverages HBS’s experience of working on world-class sporting events and uses state-of-the-art EVS technology to replicate the live conditions of sport broadcast productions. It provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn from the best sports directors in the world, through a mix of theory and hands-on training, encouraging them to develop their expertise and creativity in the field.
